Donnella Hurley

With a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin and a M.A. from CSU-S, Donnella Hurley has had a career teaching Kindergarten.  She has had  five  covers on Inside Arden:  The Bridge To Goethe Park, January, 2006; Poppy Fields, May, 2008; Geese On Pond, March, 2009; Fall Foliage, November, 2010; and Crabapple Blossoms, April, 2011; and one cover for Inside East Sacramento , Persimmon Harvest, November,  2011.   Donnella was one of ten artists included in SMAC’s 2010 Inside Sacramento Art Exhibition at Sacramento International Airport Gallery Terminal B.  In 2010, Donnella Joined SFAC, NCA, and WASH and has been juried into numerous shows.  She has won five  awards:  The Magnum Opus XXI Jack Richeson Award for her Black Swallowtail Butterfly.  Judge Ken Potter said, “ It is wonderfully reminiscent of the Fauve.”  At the WASH 2010 Go With The Flow, she won the People’s Choice award for Chrysanthemums.  She won a Merit award for her Wood Duck in the 2012 WASH Show, The Best Use Of Color Award in the NCA Membership Show for State Capitol Park Cactus Flowers, and in 2013, she won a Merit award for her Turkey Hen in the Animal House Show. Donnella has also been in two Spring Shows with Lodi Arts in 2012 and 2013.    Donnella has been granted Artist standing from NCA in 2011.  She is also a member of the Kingsley Art Club and Roseville Arts where she has been in four shows in 2011 and 2012.
“I see painting as a wet, colorful, and joyful process to record every day’s beauty.  I try to capture the essence of my subject or its moment.  Shapes, colors, darkness and light bring my painting to form; excitement and emotion bring it to life.”
