Painting of the Month – October 2019

Oak Branch by AlysLynn Lemke.

In this painting, I used Daniel Smith’s Watercolor Ground in spots to add an impasto-like texture to the paper, then painted with transparent watercolor. Since the watercolor is on top of the ground, this would be considered OK for contest, but I would have explain it to the judges, so rather than explaining it, I just call it “mixed media.” I also used negative painting and reverse painting using a custom made stencil to pull out some of the shapes in the background.
